It is stated in the online introduction to "Tre Aspetti del Problema
Ebraico" ( http://thompkins_cariou.tripod.com/id2.html ) that in
Evola's essay, "The Problem of the Supremacy of the White Race", some
have seen an early form of the relativistic ethnic differentialism
formulated by neo-rightist Alain de Benoist.
The neurotic and inwardly crumbling members of presentday Western
civilization neglect the testimony of some of the most perceptive
geniuses and observers of life to exist on planet Earth, such as, for
example, David Hume (1) or Immanuel Kant (2), who were, according to
moderns, somehow mysteriously and radically wrong on the question of
the hierarchy of races (which is really a hierarchy of embodied
mentalities) in spite of their intellectual rigor and brilliance in
other fields.
Evola, in "The Doctrine of Awakening", affirmed the spiritual and
civilizational primacy of the white race both in its Western and
Eastern manifestations.
In "Revolt Against the Modern World", the whole esoteric history
developed by Evola, in fact, presupposes this primacy. Apparently
building on revisionist theosophical currents and the studies of
Herman Wirth, in this work he tells the 'platonic tale' of the
primordial white Arctic stock of Hyperborea, the mysterious far
northern transmitter of mankind's primordial wisdom-tradition, and
the experiences of its offshoots through space and time. While the
Northern-Aryan branch of Hyperborean descendents retained a relative
purity of ethnic and spiritual strength, the "Light of the North" was
lost to the Atlantean offshoot which defiled itself through sinful
miscegenation with brutish Lemurians of Afro-asian race. To Evola,
the spirit, rather than ethnic substance, determines culture; but at
the same time race is the vehicle of a certain spirituality. Thus,
the Northern races, inheritors and keepers of the primordial
Hyperborean light-wisdom, are objectively superior to the matter-
obsessed lower races of the South. The subsequent history of the
world is revealed to be the saga of dualistic conflict between
the "Northern Light" and the "Southern Light"; between the Uranian,
patriarchal men of pure Aryo-Nordic race, harshly conditioned
celebrators of the winster solstice, connected more immediately to
the Arctic regions, and the chthonic, matriarchal, ethnically
bastardized heirs of the fallen Atlantean civilization captured by
the Southern Light and its naturalistic-pantheist religion of mere
promiscuous vegetal and animal fertility.
How is one to approach this apparent conflict in Evola between
differentialism and hierarchicalism? What was his real and long-term
view?
