Re: [evola_as_he_is] Demons and devils

Well, the gist of Guénon's statement there is this :

"Certain kinds of knowledge, having nothing of the spiritual in them and
belonging only to the order of contingent applications, may still continue
to be transmitted, particularly the more inferior among them, but they will
naturally thereafter be liable to every kind of deviation, for they
themselves represent nothing more than 'residues' of another kind, the pure
doctrine on which they ought normally to depend having disappeared. In this
sort of case of 'survival' the psychic influences set to work in earlier
times by the representatives of the tradition will again be liable to be
'captured', even without the knowledge of their apparent guardians, who will
thenceforth be illegitimate and entirely without real authority ; those who
really make use of the influences through them will thus have the advantage
of having at their disposal not only so-called 'inanimate' objects as
unconscious instruments of the action they want to exercise, but also living
men who serve no less well as 'supports' to the influence, and whose real
existence confers on them a much greater vitality [ ... ] A tradition
deviated to that extent is really dead as such, just as dead as a tradition
that no longer even appears to be in existence ; if there were any life left
in it, however little, no such subversion could in any event take place, for
it consists in nothing but a reversal of what remains of the tradition so as
to make it work in a direction by definition anti-traditional. It is however
as well to add that before things reach that point, and as soon as
traditional organisations are so diminished and enfeebled as no longer to be
capable of adequate resistance, the more or less direct agents of the
'adversary' * can begin to work their way in with a view to hastening the
time when 'subversion' will become possible ...

* [note by Guénon : The literal meaning of the Hebrew word 'Shaytan' is
'adversary', and the 'powers' now under consideration are truly 'satanic' in
character.]"

-- Guénon, 'The Reign of Quantity & the Signs of the Times', Ch. 27,
'Psychic Residues', page 188 in Sophia Perennis edition.

Clearly Guénon has no problem with using "semitic" concepts. What he says in
fact follows directly on from the Catholic exposés of Freemasonry in the
modern Church. We must distinguish Guénon from Evola here ; the latter would
hardly have said this :

"Passing now to the Hindu civilisation, we find that its unity is also
purely and solely of a traditional order ; it includes in fact elements
belonging to the very different races or ethnic groups, all of which can
with equal justice be called 'Hindu' in the strictest sense of the word, to
the exclusion of certain other elements belonging to the same races, or at
least to some of them. Certain people maintain that originally this was not
the case, but their opinion rests on nothing better than the theory of a
supposed 'Aryan race', which is merely an invention of the over-fertile
imagination of the orientalists. The Sanskrit term 'arya', which gave its
name to this hypothetical race, was never really anything more than an
epithet applied exclusively to the members of the first three castes,
independently of their membership of this or that race, which is not in any
way material here."

-- Guénon, 'Introduction to the Study of the Hindu Doctrines', Part Two,
'The General Character of Eastern Thought', Ch. 2, 'Principles of Unity of
the Eastern Civilisations', page 51 in Sophia Perennis edition.

I would like to add here that there is a most instructive opposition between
Evola and the Satanists, Saturnians, and Setians who seek to learn from him,
and it is this : of the two great forces universally known as 'the Light'
and the Darkness', each opposes one to the other on the grounds that it and
it alone provides clear and distinct spiritual perception, but Evola chooses
'the Light' and the others choose 'the Darkness'. This demonstrates to my
mind that the apparent opposition is actually quite irrelevant. Each seeks
to escape from his 'semitic' heritage, but actually succeeds only in
inverting it.
