again, corrected)
An article about 'Evola y Serrano' was published last year in the online journal
'Ciudad de los Césares' (http://revistaciudaddeloscesares.blogspot.com/) by
Marco Ghio, the president of Centro de Estudios Evolianos de América (Buenos
Aires). It was published at http://es.metapedia.org/wiki/Evola_y_Serrano/ a few
months ago. It shows that Hitlerism, as reconstructed by M. Serrano, is not very
different in its principles from many modern views in force today. First, a
critical review, or, shall we say, translation of it will be offered, which,
then, will allow us to elaborate on the more or less occult roots of the
anti-European notion of 'Hitlerian esotericism'.
Arguably, just as a literature emerged that projects Nazism as the absolute
evil, there appeared, as a backlash to it, a literature that sees it as the
absolute good, thus avoiding, in the same manner as in the previous case, to
take an objective view of the facts.
In South America, the main representatives of the latter group are Salvador
Borrego and Miguel Serrano. The former wrote a whole book devoted mostly to show
that Hitler was not wrong in doing what he did, and that he almost won the war.
Nazism, from his point of view, never made mistakes, was not wrong in invading
Russia, did not mistakenly address the Jewish problem, did not err in a
biological racism which was as limited as its views, and did not assume a
narrow-minded nationalism that ultimately proved fatal to Germany. Everything
went wrong because those who were around Hitler, either failed to live up to the
goals he had set himself or simply betrayed him.
The latter assumes even more far-fetched views in this respect. True, Hitler
lost the war, even though he was an Avatara, i.e. an incarnation of divinity,
but he did it 'on purpose' or rather, while losing the war on the material
level, won it on the supra-material one. This view reaches a level of
consistency even greater than Borrego's view, since a god could not make
mistakes when choosing his collaborators.
We have no way to check the accuracy of M. Ghio's account of Borrego's views on
National-Socialism and, more specifically, on Hitlerism, since we are not
familiar with Borrego's work, which is summarised in broader outlines at
http://rationalwiki.com/wiki/Salvador_Borrego/ However, M. Ghio, like many
metaphysicians keen on meta-history, seems to have a rather superficial
knowledge of history. For example, according to an insider, V. Suvorov, a former
Soviet spy who defected to the UK after WW2, Hitler was probably neither wrong
nor right in attacking Russia in June 1941 : he simply did not have the choice,
since Stalin planned to attack Nazi Germany from the rear in July 1941. This is
what all Werhmacht leaders claimed in Nuremberg trials. Their claim was later
supported by the archive materials that were declassified by the Russian
ministry of defense in the early 1990's (see, for instance,
http://www.vivamalta.org/forum/archive/index.php/t-910.html)
As far as M. Serrano is concerned, it is not very clear why M. Ghio considers
his belief in the avatareness of A. Hitler as a "literary device meant, through
the formulation of fanciful statements, to induce one to read his voluminous
work consisting of several volumes in which endless ramblings follow one another
(...)". As a matter of fact, one of the main reasons why we have never really
felt like reading `Adolph Hitler, el Último Avatăra' is precisely the author's
assumption that A. Hitler was an Avatara. It also appears that M. Ghio has been
fooled by one of the biggest hoaxes of the XXth century. M. Ghio, however, may
not be wrong in dismissing M. Serrano's work as "endless ravings" :
"In 1984 he (M. Serrano) published his 643-page tome, Adolf Hitler, el Último
Avatăra (Adolf Hitler: The Last Avatar), which is dedicated "To the glory of the
Führer, Adolf Hitler". In this arcane work Serrano unfolds his ultimate
philosophical testament through elaborate esoteric and mythological symbolism.
He insists that there has been a vast historical conspiracy to conceal the
origins of evolved humankind. Serrano's epic vista opens with extragalactic
beings who founded the First Hyperborea, a terrestrial but nonphysical realm
which was neither geographically limited nor bound by the circles of
reincarnation. The Hyperboreans were asexual and reproduced through "plasmic
emanations" from their ethereal bodies; the Vril power was theirs to command,
the light of the Black Sun coursed through their veins and they saw with the
Third Eye. Serrano contends that the last documents relating to them were
destroyed along with the Alexandrian Library, and that latterly these beings
have been misunderstood as extraterrestrials arriving in spaceships or UFOs.
However, the First Hyperborea was immaterial and altogether outside our
mechanistic universe.
The latter is under the jurisdiction of the Demiurge, an inferior godlet whose
realm is the physical planet earth. The Demiurge had created a bestial imitation
of humanity in the form of proto-human "robots" like Neanderthal Man, and
intentionally consigned his creatures to an endless cycle of involuntary
reincarnation on the earthly plane to no higher purpose. The Hyperboreans
recoiled in horror from this entrapment within the Demiurge's cycles. They
themselves take the devayana, the Way of the Gods, at death and return to the
earth (as Bodhisattvas) only if they are willing.
Determined upon a heroic war to reclaim the Demiurge's deteriorating world, the
Hyperboreans clothed themselves in material bodies and descended on to the
Second Hyperborea, a ring-shaped continent around the North Pole. During this
Golden Age or Satya Yuga, they magnanimously instructed the Demiurge's creations
(the Black, Yellow and Red races native to the planet) and began to raise them
above their animal condition. Then disaster struck. Some of the Hyperboreans
rebelled and intermingled their blood with the creatures of the Demiurge, and
through this transgression Paradise was lost. Serrano refers to Genesis 6.4:
"the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to
them". By diluting the divine blood, the primordial miscegenation accelerated
the process of material decay. This was reflected in outward catastrophes and
the North and South Poles reversed positions as a result of the fall of a comet
or moon. The polar continent disappeared beneath the deluge and Hyperborea
became invisible again. The Hyperboreans themselves survived, some taking refuge
at the South Pole. Serrano regards the mysterious appearance of the fine and
artistic Cro-Magnon Man in Europe as evidence of Hyperboreans driven southward
by the Ice Age. In the then-fertile Gobi Desert another group of exiled
Hyperboreans established a fantastic civilization.
The world thus becomes the combat zone between the dwindling Hyperboreans and
the Demiurge and his forces of entropy. But Serrano claims that the Golden Age
can be reattained if the Hyperboreans' descendants, the Aryans, consciously
re-purify their blood to restore the divine blood-memory (...)

M. Ghio is right in speculating that the lack of any reference to M. Serrano's
work in J. Evola's is due to the fact that the former's was completely unknown
in Italy during the latter's life. Now, if, as claimed by him, the Chilean
writer did visit the Italian author in Rome a few months before the latter's
death, it is not completely unreasonable to assume that he could have thought of
bringing along with him a copy of a book of his. A few years ago, we read a
letter by J. Evola in which he wrote to a correspondent of his that M. Serrano
had asked him for a meeting at his apartment in Rome, that he had accepted his
request, that M. Serrano had not showed up, and that he had had no news from him
since then. We are unfortunately unable to find again the book in which that
letter was printed.
A few comments on J. Evola are found in M. Serrano's work. In 'El Cordón
Dorado', the Chilean writer sees the Italian author as superior to R. Guenon and
laments over the influence exerted by the French metaphysician on him. He blamed
R. Guenon for having prevented J. Evola to become aware of the 'esoteric
Hitlerism' which he supported, and, as a result, for having supposedly turned
him into a mere conservative author and a mere traditionalist. In other parts of
his work, J. Evola's racial pedigree, due to his Latin and Roman (sic) origins,
is deemed as far inferior to the Germanic type, which, to M. Serrano, was
Hyperborean, even though, as M. Ghio rightly notes, the Chilean people can
hardly claim Nordic origins, and, as he could have added, the Sicilian nobility
to which J. Evola belonged has Norman origins.
M. Ghio, on the other hand, does add that Serrano was also greatly mistaken when
he claimed that J. Evola had overlooked 'esoteric Hitlerism', insofar as the
Italian author referred to this issue in various articles and, in particular, in
his major work on National-Socialism, 'Notes on the Third Reich', which stands
as the second part of 'Fascismo visto della destra. Note sul Terzo Reich'. In
these notes, which refer specifically to the Thule Society, that existed before
the foundation of the German National Socialist Party, and to which several
leaders, such as Rudolf Hess, belonged, J. Evola rejected the thesis that the
Thule society was an esoteric group. Incidentally, we may add, in relation with
'Fascismo visto della destra', that the most critical text ever written by J.
Evola on A. Hitler, which was published in that book, is entirely based on
'Hitler's Table Talk', and that 'Hitler's Table Talk' has been proved a forgery
in the meantime.
M. Ghio accurately summarises J. Evola's views on metaphysics and the
traditional conception of man as put forward in 'Revolt against the Modern
World'. There are two types of dimensions in man and, therefore, two different
ways for him of connecting with reality : the physical way and the metaphysical
way. In the first case, man experiences only the phenomena of life, such as
time, space and movement. In the second case, on the contrary, there is a
supra-life, that is eternity, which is a dimension that is found beyond
three-dimensional space and time, life being conceived and experienced, here,
not as an end-in-itself, but as a means to achieve something greater than
itself, the metaphysical dimension of transcendence.
There is a qualitative ontological difference between soul and spirit, between
two types of self, that is, on one hand, a mental and psychic self, that of man
understood as a single individual or part of a whole (race, society, history,
etc.), and, on the other hand, a higher self, of a spiritual nature, that
transcends man as an individual. Man is connected and bound by the former to the
sphere of time and physical space, whereas the latter refers to the dimension of
the eternal and metaphysical. Just as the physical dimension, this second
dimension exists in all human beings, but, unlike the former, it must be
actualised through a second birth which is brought about by initiation and
rites, so that, while all are born as individuals, not all become actual
persons, spiritual and free beings.
The lower self, that is, the psychic sphere peculiar to the conscious being,
builds up, throughout life, on contact with the body and the vital phenomena
belonging to the unconscious, instinctive and irrational plane. It is a
principle of order which survives the body after death, but this phenomenon,
although it is different from the physical phenomenon, is not properly that of
immortality ; it is simply a way of survival with respect to the body. Thus, a
second death, well after physical death, occurs, which consists in the
dissolution of psychic phenomena generated throughout life. The only element
which is properly immortal is spirit, which, while being in potentia in all
human beings, not all manage to actualise ; not all become immortal, although
all will survive to various degrees to bodily death.
"These fundamental principles that (...) we have tried to summarise here in the
most concise manner, M. Ghio goes on, are the opposite of those upheld by the
school known as 'esoteric Hitlerism' of which Serrano appears to us as being one
the main exponents. (...) The bottom line is that, to Serrano, it is not a
matter of going beyond the physical realm, but rather of stereotyping such
dimension in the search for a superman, which, to his eyes, was "the great
project of the racial laboratories of Hitlerism". Serrano's Manu, or 'the man
coming', is a type of man whose cerebral and physical abilities have a lot in
common with those that are displayed by the current common rational man. Even in
his rejection of rationality, Serrano shows its full adhesion to Theosophy,
including in its exaltation of female knowledge to the detriment of male and
manly knowledge. Manu, in his work (p. 49), speaks of the superiority of women
over men, insofar as they have been able to develop a brain that is not
rational, but emotional. It is not by chance that women were also the main
exponents of the Theosophist school. Needless to say, the spiritual has nothing
to do with the brain. The brain may be used as a tool, but spirit can by no
means be reduced to a dimension of this type. Just as the rational is a higher
dimension than the emotional or the irrational, so is supra-rational or
intellectual intuition, which consists in the immediate knowledge of essences
without the mediation of sensitive forms or of discourse.
Obviously, since he is not able to conceive of a properly spiritual dimension,
M. Serrano understands immortality as a permanent reincarnation of the self
through successive bodies, while, to him, the psychic, as opposed to the
spiritual, a dimension that, just as the crudest materialists do, he denies
again and again, can only manifest itself in a material body. Still to him, the
psychic self is not dissolved by death, but is perpetuated through successive
regenerations.
Traditional thought distinguishes immortality, conceived as participation in an
eternal dimension where time does not exist, from infinite immortality, or
survival through successive rebirths, which is peculiar to the 'new man' who,
according to Serrano, will be born in a new Aquarian Age, which he opposes to
the current decadent Pisces age. At this point, one would have to be blind not
to realise that M. Serrano's considerations partake of New Age ideologies that
are nothing but a modern form of Theosophy influenced by the latest scientific
findings. Hitlerism thus becomes part of pseudo-spiritual concepts whose ultima
ratio is not an overcoming of the space-time dimension, but rather a
stereotyping of it. The new man is therefore not a being who overcomes time, but
rather someone who, immersed in it, regenerates himself from it.
Finally, M. Ghio points out that, just as M. Serrano believes in reincarnation,
so he accepts the modern myth of evolution, "even though he expresses it
cyclically". What he means by that we are not sure, so we will leave it at that
and proceed to the conclusion of the study.
"Hitlerism was not esoteric. Hitler died in Berlin fighting for his cause, and
it is not certain that he is still living in the Hollow Earth. Just as Serrano
Hitlerism is not the overcoming of the scientism that was imposed on us by the
secularised modern world, following its victory in the Great War. There is
instead a Hitlerism that has nothing to do with Boregga's and Serrano's
pretences and that needs to be asserted. Perhaps, it goes beyond the intentions
of the founder of National-Socialism. Just as Italian Fascism, as it was
entering its final days, gave birth to the legionnaire spirit and thus came
close to Tradition, which, however, did not exist in the bourgeois Ventennio, so
National-Socialism, in the aftermath of the Great War, as its Germanic
supremacist positions were already spelling death for it, struggled for an
anti-democratic and anti-modern worldview, for a hierarchical principle and for
a spiritual man, and, later, just as 'white' and 'Aryan Germanic' biological
racism was collapsing, gave rise to a union of people for whom the fatherland
was not race or nation, but the idea that can bring together the most diverse
ethnic groups (M. Ghio must be referring to the fact that, from 1943, and
despite A. Hitler's reservations, non-Germanic divisions of Waffen-SS were
formed, and of course, to a well-known concept developped by J. Evola's in
'Orientamenti'). This 'Hitlerism' is silenced today in the interest of a number
of hoaxes such as those that can be found in the work of M. Serrano."
Most of these hoaxes, as evidenced by H.T.Hakl in 'Unknown sources : National
Socialism and the Occult'
(http://groups.yahoo.com/group/evola_as_he_is/message/187), can be traced back
to several works from the early 1940's, twenty years before speculation about
National-Socialism and occultism became part of the so-called popular culture,
as well as of the so-called far-right culture, by the medium of "sensational and
under-researched" (N. Goodrick-Clarke) books such as the notorious 'Le Matin des
Magiciens' by L. Pauwels and Jacques Bergier (1960) and 'The Spear of Destiny'
by T. Ravenscroft (1972). The first allusions that Hitler was influenced by
occult forces, which were taken up by later authors, came from the… French
(Jewish)… Christian… Martinist… esotericist René Kopp. The claim that Hitler was
a Freemason apparently originates from a book by the Czech Kabbalist Franz
Bardon, whose work was highly influenced by Eliphas Levi, an ex-Catholic turned
occultist, and Francis Barrett, an English Kabbalist ; according to him, "Hitler
belonged to Der Freimaurerischer Orden der Goldene Centurie in Dresden, commonly
known (sic) as Lodge 99. All the 99 lodges of this order had 99 members. Each
lodge worships a horrible demon. The demon helps members gain money and power.
The members of the 99 Lodges are also industrialists and bankers." This "has (…)
been confirmed from Moscow, J. Lina stressed in 'The Architects of Deception',
where all the documents referring to this subject are kept", apparently so
well-kept that, unlike many archive documents to which this Estonian author was
able to have access in Moscow to write his remarkably well-researched and
well-documented work on the Jewish rise and Russian fall of the Soviet Empire,
'Under the Sign of the Scorpion', it has still not been declassified… The
problem with J. Lina's conspirationist books is that the primary sources on
which they are based - such as that which enables him to demolish the
well-established modern myth that it was German capitalists who provided
Hitler's financial support, while failing to realise, as once did A. Sutton,
that the simple reason why this support was provided to the NSDAP by Jewish
bankers is that most banks were already Jewish-owned - are indiscriminately
interwoven with an even larger number of more or less dubious secondary sources,
such as crypto-historic articles or books that claim that a man of honour, a
both physically and spiritually courageous man of the calibre of the
Stellvertretender Reichsprotektor Reinhard Heydrich, son of Bruno Heydrich and
Elizabeth Kranz, was of Jewish extraction ; or, with an even greater dose of
intellectual charlatanism, that the Reichsminister Joseph Goebbels, son of Fritz
Goebbels and Katharina Odenhausen, was also of Jewish extraction. In late 1941,
if we are to believe, for example, 'Hitler's Secret Enemy : Canaris, Patriot or
Traitor?', Canaris hid in his safe photocopies of documents about Heidrich's
supposedly Jewish origin. Now, M. Williams ('Reinhard Heydrich : The Biography')
has showed that "The diary of Canaris was not recovered in the safe. The Zossen
papers included a few copy pages of the diary. The unsubstantiated belief that
evidence of Heydrich's ancestry was recovered among the Zossen papers stems from
an unreliable source, Helmut Maurer, a pianist and counter-intelligence worker
from Berlin. He stated that in 1940 he removed documents from the Halle record
office and gave them to Canaris. Nobody has ever seen these documents and the
Canaris biographer, Höhne, does not even mention them. Had they ever existed,
Achim Gercke would have found them whilst conducting his investigation into the
allegation of Heydrich's ancestry. Another example of hearsay and tainted,
unreliable evidence." (contrary to most scholars, M. Williams does not hide
behind his books; he is active on http://forum.axishistory.com/, where he does
far more than just regurgitating endlessly the content his publications)

Before going any further into this account, let us make ourselves very clear
again : "It is not a question of establishing whether given representatives of
National Socialism - Heinrich Himmler or Rudolf Hess for instance - adhered to
some esoteric doctrine, but whether National Socialism as a whole owed its rise
and its power to these influences." The question, to quote further H.T. Hakl, is
"to determine whether the claim can be sustained that National Socialism is
based on occult doctrines, and on contacts with occult 'Orders', in the sense
that the organisations of National-Socialism cultivated an occult culture and
maintained close contact with persons and groups associated with occultism."
The Jewish scholar Hans Bertil Mattias Gardel remarked, not without a certain
humour : "In documentaries portraying the Third Reich, Hitler is cast as a
master magician; these documentaries typically include scenes in which Hitler is
speaking at huge mass meetings. [...] Cuts mix Hitler screaming with regiments
marching under the sign of the swastika. Instead of providing a translation of
his verbal crescendos, the sequence is overlaid with a speaker talking about
something different. All this combines to demonize Hitler as an evil wizard
spellbinding an unwitting German people to become his zombified servants until
they are liberated from the spell by the Allied victory after which, suddenly,
there were no German Nazis left among the populace. How convenient it would be
if this image were correct. National socialism could be defeated with garlic.
Watchdog groups could be replaced with a few vampire killers, and resources
being directed into anti-racist community programs could be directed at
something else. [...] (Of course, he later added, with the hereditary wanton
cynicism of people of his kind : ""The truth, however, is that millions of
ordinary German workers, farmers and businessmen supported the national
socialist program. [...] They were people who probably considered themselves
good citizens, which is far more frightening than had they merely been
demons."). Beyond being a Jewish scholar, Hans Bertil Mattias Gardel is also a
Swedish good citizen.
In the 1960's, Gerald Gardner, the founder of the modern witch movement (Wicca),
visited J. Evola in Rome, "to inquire about the state of magic and of witches
(sic) in Italy", bringing along with him the picture of "one of the witches with
whom he had had a close relationship : a completely naked young woman with a
perfect body, about whose face expression there was yet something slightly
sinister." The Italian author told us about their meeting in an article
published in 'Roma' on November 21 1971 and called 'La congrega delle stregghe'.
G. Gardner, whom we are told got acquainted with the hardly secret agent A.
Crowley only in 1946, was supposedly initiated in the late 1930's by the
high-priestess of a convent of witches ; the story even goes that the convent,
including him, joined with other witches in southern England on July 31 1940 to
perform a ritual to prevent Hitler's forces from invading England. The story,
however, may not be true. "That British witches possibly did meet during W.W.II
to discourage Hitler is quite possible, but most unlikely. Accounts by Gerald
Gardner were plagiarised from Anthropologist Dr. Margaret Murray' landmark
folklore book published in 1949, which scholars say instigated the present
witchcraft revival. And suggestions from informed sources say Gardner originated
his own version of a Witchcraft type organisation in 1951-52, not before."
(http://www.illuminati-news.com/081006c.htm) These conclusions, based on
research into primary sources, are all the more interesting, and even precious,
that they were reached by a man who considers J.K Brennan's 'Occult Reich' -
debunked by N. Goodrick-Clarke as one of the numerous works showing "a complete
ignorance of primary sources" on the Third Reich and occultism – as "Perhaps the
most believable book" on the topic. Perhaps, the emphasis is on that adverb.
Much superficial information can be found on the close connection between the
British intelligence (sic) service and occultism on conspiracy theory websites,
which keep copying and pasting each other's content so much that, after all, one
cannot but wonder what agency drafted the original text. However, there is one
statement, still by T. Stokes, who claims to have "spent 35 years questioning
retired intelligence personnel from the war," that those websites seem to be
reluctant to copy and paste : "During W.W.II Winston Churchill, a 33rd degree
Mason, and Masonry is about as occult as it comes, took advice from Archbishop
Lang, The Church of England occults expert, Dennis Wheatley, Louis De-Whol
R.A.F. chief Lord Dowding and others, to form the 'Black-Team'. These were top
occultists whose job was to advise the British government, including
astrologers, and a celebrity palmist, Dowsers, and according to my friend the
late medium Joe Benjamin with Jewish underground sources, several big Spirit
mediums too." Two years after T. Stokes, who is certainly aware that modern
intelligence (sic) agencies owe a lot to the Welsh Kabbalist John Dee
(http://www.newdawnmagazine.com/Article/The_British_Occult_Secret_Service.html)
wrote that article, some of his claims were fully confirmed by newly released
files :
"Britain had an extraordinary secret weapon during the Second World War - an
astrologer employed to guess Adolf Hitler's moves, according to newly released
files.
Louis de Wohl persuaded MI5 that the Fuhrer's apparently intuitive tactical
decisions were heavily influenced by his horoscope.
He offered to study what the stars had in store for both Hitler and other major
military figures such as Gen Bernard Montgomery and Emperor Hirohito of Japan in
order to give Britain a tactical edge.
Despite grave misgivings among some spymasters that he was a "charlatan" and
fond of mumbo-jumbo, de Wohl's services were used by a variety of agencies
during the war.
(...)
In 1941 de Wohl was hired by the Special Operations Executive (SOE) - the
wartime sabotage organisation - to make a tour of America, which was reluctant
to enter the war. The plan was to undermine American notions of German
invincibility, thus persuading them to join the Allies."
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1580640/Astrologer-hired-by-MI5-to-guess-\
Hitlers-plans.html
Hitler was as critical of so-called neo-pagans as J. Evola was : "The
characteristic thing about these people [modern-day followers of the early
Germanic religion] is that they rave about the old Germanic heroism, about dim
prehistory, stone axes, spear and shield, but in reality are the greatest
cowards that can be imagined. For the same people who brandish scholarly
imitations of old German tin swords, and wear a dressed bearskin with bull's
horns over their heads, preach for the present nothing but struggle with
spiritual weapons, and run away as fast as they can from every Communist
blackjack." ('Mein Kampf', ch. 12)
There is more : "National Socialism is not a cult-movement-- a movement for
worship; it is exclusively a 'volkish' political doctrine based upon racial
principles. In its purpose there is no mystic cult, only the care and leadership
of a people defined by a common blood-relationship... We will not allow
mystically-minded occult folk with a passion for exploring the secrets of the
world beyond to steal into our Movement. Such folk are not National Socialists,
but something else-- in any case something which has nothing to do with us. At
the head of our programme there stand no secret surmisings but clear-cut
perception and straightforward profession of belief." Nuremberg, 6 September
1938.
Many reasons have been provided in order to explain A. Hitler's aversion towards
occultism. They are all more or less well-grounded. The most essential one is
often overlooked : occultism is the privileged domain of Jews and idle women.
