What exactly do you mean by "Roman mentality"? Surely, not the
mentality of those Patricians who, as told by Celsus, held in
contempt the Christians, and who rightly saw in Christianity,
that "execrable superstition" to quote Tacitus, a mere Jewish sect,
while the wives of the degenerate part of the Roman Patriciate of
which Augustus failed to dispose when he came in power were only too
pleased to finance the building of the terrestrial Church of Peter.
To call 'Roman' the mentality of Christianised Rome is a misuse of
language. So long as one is able to see what's hidden behind
Christian teachings, one can hardly be enlisted by it, especially
when one unmasks it publicly.
Now, those who mistake Rome for 'semiticised Rome' ; universalism for
internationalism ; can be enlisted by it. They play in its hands.
From 'Imperialismo Pagano' (1932) to his last essays on race (1943),
Evola warned continually against that mistake and its fatal
consequences in the political field.
By rightly pointing out that, since "the Church disapproves of
Bolshevism, a certain superficially anti-clerical mentality can't
resist supporting Bolshevism", you allow us to draw attention to the
fact that that disapproval is largely based on contingent factors,
such as the persecution of Christians in the Soviet Union, a
persecution which was carried out mainly under Lenin. Nevertheless,
as stressed by the author of an article whose "neutrality is
disputed" on wikipedia, "religion was never outlawed in the Soviet
Union, and the Soviet Constitution actually guaranteed religious
freedom to all Soviet citizens. Persecutions were usually carried out
for political, not religious, reasons" (In the same way, Stalin
persecuted some Jews, as he persecuted people of other races, merely
for political reasons).
Pope Leo XIII's encyclical 'Rerum Novarum' criticised and rejected
the socialist concept of class struggle, as well as capitalism, but
took great care of not alluding to the people which is responsible
for the spreading of communism and speculative capitalism all over
the world in modern times, a people which the Church still condemned
at that time, but only for having killed Jesus-Christ. This explains
why, among other things, Pius XII and his predecessor Pius XI, to
whom he served as Secretary of State, made it clear that co-operation
with the Nazi racial agenda and Jewish persecution could not be
allowed.
