RE: [evola_as_he_is] 'Heathen Imperialism'

I’m afraid it is difficult to defend oneself in a “heresy” trial given the asymmetric nature of this forum, even if the charges are rather absurd.

The issue is whether the Middle Ages could be considered an “Aryan” civilisation … this should have been a matter for intelligent discussion.

I posted a paragraph from the German edition of “Imperialismo Pagano” that indicated the answer is “yes”. In “Sintesi di dottrina della razza”, Evola repeats this judgment when he writes about “the great Aryan civilisations of the Orient, to ancient Rome, to the Germano-Roman Middle Ages.” (p 29) Evola is aware about the dominant role of the Catholic church at that time; he claims that the Church, though a mixed bag, still managed to retain certain Roman pagan elements. To notice this is not to claim that Christianity is co-extensive with or identical to the pagan tradition described by Evola.

The link to an interview of Evola provided by the moderator, in an apparent attempt to refute Evola with his own words, does just the opposite. In his answer to the question about the role of Christianity in European history, Evola remarks: “the greatest miracle of Christianity is its success in asserting itself among the peoples of Europe.” Although a “miracle” is not a satisfying explanation, it is certainly superior to the vast conspiracy proposed by the moderator. However, in a subordinate clause Evola comes closer to a more likely explanation: “even taking into account the decadence into which numerous traditions of these peoples had fallen.” That is precisely the point I also made.

Evola claims that goes on to say: “Catholicism would be inconceivable without its various ‘Roman’ aspects.” These are: “the great orders of chivalry, Thomism, certain mystical teachings of a high order (Meister Eckhart), the spirit of the Crusades, etc.” These important aspects of the Middle Ages are true European values that the Catholic church managed to restore.  It is true that the church today no longer holds those values, but neither does post-Christian Europe.

If any third party can show how I’ve distorted Evola’s ideas in any way, I will retract.

A few days ago, to show unquestionably that the content of a post
(1093) on Evola's views on Christianity was aberrant and that this
post only showed that the one who posted it has never read Evola
seriously and only selects passages of his work which, taken out of
the context, may remotely fit with his own Christian traditionalist
world-view, we posted this excerpt of 'Imperialismo pagano' :

"Christianity is at the root of the evil that has corrupted the West.
This is the truth, and it does not admit uncertainty.

(...) Christianity first infected the race of blonde Germanic
barbarians, (...)

The identification of our tradition with either the Christian or
Catholic tradition is the most absurd of errors."
