Adam's of Bremen assertion is thought as a diatribe
against the indigenous German faith, in which the
"ulfhednar" (wolf-skins) played an important role as
members of Maennerbuende dedicated to Wotan.
They wore wolf costumes or wolf masks and were also
called "Wotan's dogs".
