Evola and the European Movements (Van Severen)

Julius Evola gave an account ('Il nuovo Convegno internazionale
antiebraico di Erfurt', 'Vita Italiana', January 1939) of the fifth
anti-Semitic Congress which was held in Erfurt in 1939 and which
gathered representatives of various contemporary Fascist-oriented
European movements. The Netherlands were represented by Arnold Meijer,
editor of the paper 'Zwart Front', and whose attitude towards Judaism,
as well as that of the movement he belonged to, is described as "more
radical" than that of Mussert's 'Nationalsocialistiche Beweging'.
Evola is relatively more critical of the views of the second Dutch
contributor, namely J. van Roessel, who was there to give a lecture on
the Jewish-Masonic tactic used by media. It looks like J. van Severen
did not take part in this congress.

There are not many biographic data about Evola, and, when it comes to
his day-to-day life, there are even fewer. Few Italians would
spontaneously wear a dot tie with a stripped suit or black trousers
with white socks ; even under torture, some would positively refuse to
do such thing. Italians are known to be elegant, but that doesn't make
them dandies, at least in the Baudelairian sense. In this sense, Evola
was the opposite of a dandy. This article you forwarded shows clearly
that there were points of close contact between J. van Severen's
conception of the Empire and Evola's, even though de Benoist is more
often quoted in this respect than van Severen himself.

For this reason, it is difficult to elaborate.
